This site was useful with dates and a general summary of facts which helped me begin my research and dive into deeper detail as I went on. As a station of the tv and a website that highly focuses on documentaries and depictions of history I feel that it is a reliable source seeing that they use many references to sources throughout many of their articles and documentaries.

1. Presidents Day became a federal holiday around 1870.

2. Although the holiday started out with only applying to the District of Columbia in 1855 it became the whole country.

3. It never actually lines up with any of the birthdays of American presidents.

4. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln are the two most highly recognized on this holiday.

Britannica is the site for Encyclopedia Britannica. I found it to be a reliable source for facts as it is an Encyclopedia which has been around for years and is a reputable source for definitions.

5. Congress passed a bill entitled the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill in 1968 which moved a lot of federal holidays to Monday.

6. Presidents Day is the most common name for the day however it still is technically called Washingtons Birthday.

7. When the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill was being passed it was proposed that they should change the name of Washingtons Birthday to Presidents day but the suggestion was rejected.

8. Presidents day is known as a way to celebrate all of the U.S. presidents lives.

The News Week is a publication I found which has written about Presidents Day. As a News Publication I found it was a good source for reliable and unbiased news with clear facts.

9. Although the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed in 1968 it was not signed until President Richard Nixon made an executive order in 1971.

10. Presidents Day was assigned the third Monday in Februaruay.

11. Interestingly enough the bill didn’t designate a name for the holiday and states were left to determine what they liked more.

Mount Vernon is the website for the estate of mount Vernon where Washington once resided. I thought it would be an applicable, accurate and reputable source due to its association with the united states and history as Washingtons home.

12. When Washington died in 1799 his birthday continued to be celebrated before it was even noted as a holiday.

13. Interestingly enough to celebrate Washingtons actual birthday the farewell address is read on February 22 by a US Senate member.

National Today is an online source and publication that writes about holidays and celebrations. It’s facts and history have lined up with all of the other official dates and facts I located so I chose it as a source for useful and insightful information in regards to Presidents Day.

14. Wallace Doresey was the one who proposed that Washingtons birthday should be a federal holiday.

15. Presidents Day is between George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays.

16. It is generally known as a day off from work.

I chose National Geographic as one of the sites due to its nature in history and science as a reputable publication.

17. Washingtons birthday has been celebrated for almost 200 years.

18. Robert McClory the U.S. Representative who called Illinois home opposed moving presidents day to the third Monday of the month instead calling for a renaming of the holiday because it fell both between Washingtons birthday and Lincoln's.

19. Although the holiday was never changed official from Washingtons birthday the nation took the opportunity to rename it and thus started calling the day Presidents Day.

20. Still several remain opposed to the idea of calling Washingtons birthday Presidents Day as it diminishes from the celebration of our first president and a great man.
