Two Questions Stories Should Answer

News articles need to be aware of what they are portraying and the way I write a story matters for the readers. I may understand a lot more of the nuances of a situation than the readers do because of my own research, but for them it’s brand new information. In that case it’s important to be specific and straight to the point, leaving no room for interpretation. One of the most important points in writing a story is the “what” and in that question specificity is key. I think it’s worth saying that when writing an article, we need to be aware of our main audience and write according to that.

The other major question in writing a news story is the why. The question doesn’t pertain so much to why the subject is important to me, but why is what I’m writing about important to my readers. Again, it’s important to be specific, in a lot of cases news effects a large amount of people it’s our job to make them aware of just how much a story or circumstance can affect them in the long run.

Short, blunt and to the point... I’m basically a dull knife.
